Scientific working

Our guidelines to scientific working

The basic rules and principles of scientific work form the basis for a successful study. Even a thesis that is very good in terms of content can lose considerable value if these rules are not followed. For this reason, we have developed a guideline for our students, which should serve as an aid for writing scientific seminar papers as well as final theses in our institution. In addition to notes on the formal design for theoretical papers, it also contains guidelines for the implementation and writing of papers. The guideline has been developed in cooperation with all lecturers at our location and thus primarily provides a common consensus and basis. Nevertheless, personal and individual consultation with the respective supervisors should take place, especially in the case of final theses.

Citation in vocational and business education

Proof by citation is the core of scientific work, as it can be used to identify foreign ideas. Our guide contains detailed advice on citation and the preparation of bibliographies. There are different ways of citing - the recommendations in this guide are based on an ongoing and collective discussion and agreement process. We are guided by the American Psychological Association (APA), as well as relevant literature in our field (e.g., Zeitschrift für Berufs- und Wirtschaftspädagogik). The most important criterion for successful citation is the consistency and accuracy of the evidence provided.

Should the citation be done via a digital literature management program, the determination of the citation style can always be done in consultation with the supervisors. Furthermore, a style has been created for the program Citavi, which corresponds to our guideline and can be downloaded here.

Our checklist

We use various criteria for the evaluation of scientific papers. These are essentially summarized in our checklist. It is recommended that students check their work against this checklist before submitting it.
