Vocational and Business Education Department

The Department of Vocational and Business Education (VET) at the University of Osnabrück was founded in 1984. It is part of the Institute of Educational Science in the Department of Educational and Cultural Studies at the University of Osnabrück.

The activities of the staff in the VET department focus on the scientific study of vocational education and training. This includes questions of structure and organization, didactics and design, as well as the biographical development of learners in the various areas of vocational education (training, continuing education, vocational orientation, retraining, support for disadvantaged persons, etc.). Research focuses on international-comparative vocational education and training research and on questions concerning the professionalization of vocational education and training personnel.

In addition, the Department of Vocational and Business Education is involved in the courses of study for the teaching profession at vocational schools. In addition to the consecutive bachelor's and master's programs, a special master's program is offered for bachelor's graduates (lateral entry master's program). The study of vocational and business education is research-oriented. The different course formats (lectures, seminars, research seminars, project seminars, etc.) are offered in presence, hybrid or digital. Information on the VET study program and an overview of current courses can be found under the Studies tab. Our graduates from the different study programs do not only change to the vocational teaching profession, but also to other practical fields of vocational education, e.g. in-company personnel development, in private vocational schools, in vocational education administration, e.g. in chamber organizations or in ministries, or in vocational education research.

Furthermore, the VET department is involved in the training of young academics in vocational and business education. In addition to the supervision of doctoral projects, a structured graduate program is currently being developed for vocational teacher education research, which offers further scientific qualification in addition to the doctorate. Further information on the graduate program will follow shortly.

The VET department is located in building 26 at Katharinenstraße 24. All offices and mailboxes of the department staff are located there. For more information on the building and a map of the building, please see Consultation and Contact.
